OCHA national field staff are eligible to apply to the International United Nations Volunteer (IUNV) program. If selected for an IUNV assignment, subject to the agreement of their manager, they may be released with a lien, which is a return right to return to their parent position with OCHA at the conclusion of their international UNV assignment. A IUNV posting can be a good way to gain professional work experience at the international level, as prior international work experience is often a prerequisite for many UN jobs in the international professional category.
