FAQs

1. Multilingualism

  1. Does the DSR support multiple languages?
    1. Yes, you can produce your reports in multiple languages. We will create separate reports for you thereby allowing you flexility in your reports (i.e. you do not have to have your translation ready before you publish/update your first language). When your reports are provided in multiple languages, the user will be presented with a language option in the upper right corner.

2. Content

  1. Is it possible to have multiple images in one Article?
    1. At the moment, allowing one image is default. That decision was based on a landscape survey of Humanitarian Bulletins that showed such stories could be broken into multiple articles/pieces. As well, the DSR is aiming at smaller stories/articles that are quicker to clear & publish. Therefore, we do not want to enable or encourage long, multiple-image based stories.
  2. Where are the archives stored?
    1. Right now, we point to a pre-filtered ReliefWeb page that shows the past Sit Reps / Bulletins from your respective country. That link is found in the header of your DSR page.
    2. In the future, we are considering allowing a dynamic build of historical DSRs from Contentful. Since content is not deleted, we could theoretically build a sit rep from any given point in time. For example, in 2023, we could view the SitRep for 29-April-2019 in Burkino Faso. We could easily change the date and see what it looked like on 30-April, 01-May or even 13-June.

3. Analytics

  1. Are there analytics available for the DSR?
    1. Yes, we are tracking the DSR with Google Analytics. Simply send your Gmail/Google Account address to ochareporting@un.org and we will arrange access.
    2. We are separately tracking specific actions such as PDF downloads, image downloads, subscribe clicks, etc.
  2. How do I know if my DSR has been successful?
    1. There are a few things that you can do to help measure the success of your DSR:
      1. Compare a DSR publication with a similar static version in the past (e.g. similar time of year and activity level in country)
      2. Monitor the Google Analytics for your country over time
      3. Compare your MailChimp traffic before and after the DSR transition
      4. Compare your social media impressions before and after the DSR transition

4. Integration

  1. Is the DSR integrated with other OCHA platforms?
    1. Yes, the DSR pull financial information automatically from FTS. And, ReliefWeb pulls the DSR Highlights for display on the mobile site. Burundi ReliefWeb mobile below.
  2. Are there future plans for additional integration?
    1. Absolutely, yes. We intend to work on unocha.org integration, HPC integration, etc.

5. Discoverable

  1. Is the DSR fully optimized to be found through a Google search?
    1. Yes, on the technical site, the DSR is highly optimized. Even Google's own tool has given us a score of 100%.
    2. As of 1-May, we have neither been heavily promoting the DSR nor linking to it from our corporate sites (unocha.org, ReliefWeb, etc)
  2. If my name is listed on the DSR, will I start getting a lot of unsolicited (SPAM) emails?
    1. In the Digital Situation Report, we have already put in place protection from scrapers/bots. In the HTML response that gets used by bots and scrapers, the emails appear simply as "no-bots@example.com"
You can see the resulting code below where we have added bold and underline to show what one's email address looks like to bots/scrapers that hit our site.
