How does it work?

For every language, there is a Situation Report entry in Contentful. The language is set when the entry is created.

If you are producing content in 1 language, there will be 1 entry for your office.

If you are producing content in 2 languages, there will be 2 entries for your office.

The DSR language setting helps translate the titles, headings and other set items in the layout. All other content must be translated by the office.

How do I start creating DSRs in multiple languages?

Contact the support team (support@unocha.org). We will prepare a DSR entry for you in the language you want to use.

How do I work with multilingual DSRs?

You will have a DSR entry in Contentful for every language you are publishing in.

Locate the DSR you want to work in. If you do not have the language column in your dashboard, click on the wheel in the right corner and then click “Language”.

Languages are also listed in the DSR entry:

DO NOT change the language of your DSR in the entry. This impacts the DSR URL and can cause technical errors.

Add content as usual in the target language.

See here for more information about adding content.

Do I need to publish my DSRs at the same time?

We recommend publishing them in close together in time.

There can be delays as content is translated, that’s OK! You can always control the date on your DSR in the Date Updated field.

Remember, small pieces can be published at a time. You do not need to change your entire DSR at once. Add content as it becomes available.

ReliefWeb publishes content in English, French and Spanish independently. If you produce DSRs in a different language, a English, French or Spanish version must be available for the DSR to be posted to ReliefWeb.

Example: Your Arabic DSR is available but not your English DSR. The Arabic will not be posted until the English is available.

Troubleshooting

Images

When adding images with captions, you will need to upload the image into for each DSR entry.

Why?

Captions appear in the original language.

When the image is added using Add existing entry, changing the caption in one entry will cause it to change everywhere it appears.

Example: The caption is in English for the English DSR. The same image with English caption is added to the Arabic DSR. You change the caption in the Arabic DSR into Arabic and save. Now the English DSR will have the image with an Arabic caption.

Instead of Add existing entry, upload your image using Add new media
